January 11th, 2014 meeting

I am soooo over winter and it's just started. The weather forecast for our upcoming meeting appears to be much nicer than the arctic temperatures we've been experiencing.

Please join us for our January Potluck meeting. We will be having the very talented Julie Harstad as our speaker. Her program is titled "Can you hear me? Letting the quilt top speak to you" let Julie inspire you and learn how to choose the perfect design for your quilt top.

Julie will also be teaching a class following the meeting. The cost for members is $30.  "The Modern Quilt Movement". Explore minimal, graphic quilting designs to accentuate modern piecing. Feel free to bring a quilt top so we can consider real life possibilities. This is a drawing class for all skill levels.

In other news, we are now on Facebook. Please follow us there to see all of our activities and get a peek at some of our show and tell.

Hope to see you all at the January meeting!

October 2013 meeting

Our next meeting will be on Saturday, October 12th at 11:00. Our guest presenter will be Nancy Wick. Nancy will be giving a presentation on battings and thread. She has wonderful stitched samples which show the effect of different types of battings in quilts. Nancy will also be showing her new book, as well as her beautiful quilts.

We are still in need of a program/education chairperson. Please consider volunteering for this position. It is the perfect way to to have an influence on the types of programs you want to see. As a Board member you will help steer our group in the direction you would like to see it go.

Election of new officers for the 2014/2015 term will take place at this meeting.

I would love to see more show and tell at the meetings. Please don't feel intimidated to bring your own or customers' quilts to show. This group was formed to support and encourage all of its members. To those of you who are new to the group or just beginning your machine quilting career, remember, we all started out as beginners.

Hope to see all of you at the meeting. I encourage you to bring any friends who may be interested in joining.

July meeting repost

Okay, for some reason my last post shows up blank, so I will try again. Our July 13th meeting will be our garage sale. Members are welcome to reserve a table to sell new and gently used quilt related items. Contact Sophie Collier if you are interested in having a table.

Guests are welcome to join us at no charge for a brief meeting followed by shopping!

We are currently requesting volunteers to fill the following Board positions:  Secretary/Newsletter, Program Chair, and Vice President. Please contact Mary Nordeng if you would bbe interested in taking on one of these positions. We want to keep the guild a vital and inspiring group. Membership involvement is key to the success of the guild.

I am very excited about our upcoming programs. The October meeting's featured speaker will be Nancy Wick. Nancy will be giving a presentation on threads and batting, as well as sharing her fabulous quilts with us. Nancy also has a new book which she will have available at the October meeting.

In January our program will be presented by Julie Harstad. Julie will be speaking about Modern Quilts and her approach to quilting these quilts. Julie has been teaching at various shows and has her own pattern line of gorgeous quilts.

I am off to continue purging my studio and will have lots of goodies to sell at the garage sale.

I look forward to seeing everyone and shopping to replace everything I am selling. Isn't that why we clear out our studios..to make room for more?

July Meeting

Friday, October 5, 2012

I hope everyone enjoyed the last days of summer. Looks like Fall is here with winter just around the corner. That's Minnesota for you!

Our next meeting will be held on Saturday, October 13th at 11:00. Our featured guest will be Carol Schwankl, who will telling us what judges look for in award winning quilts. I am really looking forward to hearing Carol speak.

For our January meeting, we had hoped to have a panel discussion to answer questions from our members regarding all things quilting related. I had asked for members to submit topics that they would like discussed, but as of yet, no one has emailed me anything. Hopefully I receive some responses before our January meeting or you may just have to listen to me talk about my kids, LOL.

Hope to see you all at the October meeting, hopefully without snow on the ground!
